A serial rapist who evaded justice after his first victim could not testify has been jailed for life at Blackfriars Crown Court.

The Evening Standard newspaper reports that 34-year-old Duwayne Henry from Hackney referred to himself as “the Ripper” and built a torture chamber at his home.

Henry was acquitted at his first trial for rape – but later evidence emerged that he had committed two more rapes and the CPS was granted permission by the Court of Appeal to re-try Henry for the first crime and the two other rapes under the double jeopardy rule.

Henry lured women to his flat after calling an escort agency – and then terrorised them with a knife before tying them up and raping them.

His third victim was rescued when a man heard her screams and entered Henry’s flat.

She said in a statement that while at the flat she had seen a belt, shears, a saw, pliers, a circular saw, a hedge trimmer and seven knives.

After Henry was sentenced, chief CPS prosecutor for London, Baljit Ubhey, said:

“Henry put these women through terrifying ordeals, thinking that because they were sex workers he was untouchable.

“He was wrong.”
