£2,000 penalty for fly-tipping compost waste (12 April 2017)

Buckinghamshire County Council has prosecuted a fly-tipper caught on CCTV dumping sacks of compost material from a van.
On 17 July 2016, a surveillance camera targeting fly-tipping on Allerds Road in Burnham recorded images of sacks of compost material being deposited by from a van by Trixi-Norbert Baltag, 26, of Drayton Gardens in West Drayton.
When interviewed at a police station, Mr Baltag admitted depositing the waste, saying it had been fly-tipped by persons unknown at the car wash premises where he was manager. He added that he had not known what else to do with it.
At High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, Baltag pleaded guilty to one offence of fly-tipping. Magistrates fined him £738 and ordered clean up and prosecution costs of £1,136.69 to be paid, as well as a victim surcharge of £74 – a total of £1,948.69.
The case was prosecuted by Buckinghamshire County Council, working on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire.
The Waste Partnership launched the “Illegal Dumping Costs” campaign in November 2003, to combat illegal dumping and waste management offences in Buckinghamshire.
Since that date, the partnership has secured more than 570 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences.
