Duncan Lewis, Crime Solicitors, Teenagers stand trial for brutal killing of 17-year-old on the streets of Hackney

The Old Bailey has heard how a 14-year-old boy was part of a group who chased, caught and stabbed to death another teenager on the streets of Hackney in east London.

The Evening Standard newspaper reports that 17-year-old Jeremie Malenge was stabbed multiple times – and received a fatal 12.5cm wound through his ribs, which pierced his heart, the court heard.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The court heard that three male defendants were caught on CCTV at various points during the chase and were responsible for the stabbing.

They were aided by Sanaa Ibrahim, whose role was to be the “inside woman” – while talking to the victim, she had secretly texted and called one of alleged murderers on 36 occasions before the half-hour chase began and Mr Malenge was stabbed to death.

As the teenager fled his attackers, Ibrahim allegedly met the gang pursuing him “face-to-face” to pass on information – before rejoining the victim and his friend.

CCTV shows Ibrahim with the teenage victim and his friend when they arrived at Hackney Central station at 11pm in January, at exactly the time the 14-year-old and two other teenagers aged 17 and 18 were seen running towards the station.

The prosecution told the court:

“The events that followed showed all too clearly that this second group had one purpose, one plan – they were determined to do all they could to kill or seriously injure Jeremie Malenge and his friend.

“Over the next 30 minutes or so, the three attackers hunted their two victims through the streets of Hackney, in order to find them and carry out a deadly knife attack."

The teenager was eventually attacked in Homerton High Street by the gang. His friend managed to escape.

The court was told that the 17-year-old defendant was linked with an earlier knife attack on another young man in March 2014.

Ibrahim, 18, from Hackney in east London – along with two youths aged 14 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons – and Tre Morgan, 18, from southwest London, all deny murder.
The 17-year-old further denies a further count of wounding with intent, relating to the earlier incident.

The prosecution said of Ibrahim’s role in the killing:

“Two important facts about her role: first her contact with the attackers did not end once the attack started – in fact, she met up with them after the first chase and all four spent about 15 minutes talking face to face.

“Second, she then managed to find the victims and – cool as you like – rejoined them as they were trying to leave the scene in a minicab.

“There were then two further texts between her and the third defendant.

“In a sentence, we say that there is no innocent explanation for her contact with the attackers before and during this attack.

“She was supplying information about the victims – and acting with the others to execute the plan that they had agreed between them.”

The trial continues.
