A teenager has been remanded in custody after he admitted stabbing a supply teacher in a Bradford school on 11 June.
Supply teacher Vincent Uzomah, 50, remains in hospital in a stable condition after he was stabbed in the stomach by the pupil, BBC News reports.
The incident happened in a classroom at Dixons Kings Academy – formerly called King's Science Academy – in front of other students, as Mr Uzomah was about to start a science class.
The court heard that the stabbing was the result of a disagreement over a mobile phone – the teenager had attacked Mr Uzomah with a kitchen knife he had brought from home.
He ran off after attacking Mr Uzomah, but was arrested by police in Bradford city centre after a six-hour search.
At Bradford Crown Court, the unnamed teenage boy denied attempted murder but admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told the court: “This is a very troubling case.”
He added that the boy was “undoubtedly a very troubled young man” – and called Mr Uzomah “a very brave and compassionate victim”.
The teenager – who cannot be named for legal reasons – will be sentenced at a later date.
