Wyre Council has prosecuted a benefit claimant who fraudulently income-based claimed benefits over several years.
Wendy Wood, 43, of Chester Avenue in Poulton claimed housing and council tax benefits based on low income.
Wyre Council began an investigation in June 2015, when it became apparent that Wood had been employed in catering roles at a pub, a hotel and a nursing home.
When interviewed, Wood admitted that she had not declared any of her jobs to the council, stating that she had been struggling financially.
As a result she was overpaid £21,000 in housing and council tax benefits between April 2011 and June 2015.
Wood pleaded guilty to four offences of benefit fraud and was handed a 24-week suspended sentence at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court. She was also given a 12-month supervision order and is repaying the overpayment in benefits.
