Stockport Council has announced that Safer Stockport Partnership (SSP) has launched a three-month campaign to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour across Stockport.
The SSP is a partnership of Stockport Council, Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service.
Working in partnership with Stockport County Community Foundation, the SSP is aiming to carry out 12 weeks of football sessions in areas suffering from anti-social behaviour.
The sessions will give young people aged ten to 16 years living in the Stockport area the opportunity to play football three evenings a week from July until the middle of September.
The project aims to help reduce anti-social behaviour, to help youngsters engage with the local community – and to help increase physical activities among young people in the local community.
Councillor Sheila Bailey said:
“By working in partnership with Stockport County Community Foundation, we can provide many young people in Stockport with sporting activities to help keep them healthy and active over the school holidays.
“Encouraging participation in sporting events is a positive way of engaging young people – and I hope the sessions will be very well attended.”
Assistant Community Foundation Manager from Stockport County Community Foundation, Matthew Bailey, added:
“This project is a great opportunity to engaging with young people, helping them increase physical activity, learn new or advance football skills – and help them from being involved in anti-social behaviour over the summer period.”
