Duncan Lewis, Action Against Public Authorities Solicitors, Solicitor Graeme Rothwell becomes Director of Action Against Public Authorities department

We are pleased to announce that Solicitor Graeme Rothwell has been appointed as Director of the Action Against Public Authorities department at Dalston.

Graeme joined Duncan Lewis in 2016 and specialises in both actions against public authorities and criminal defence work. His key focus is holding public authorities to account when they act unlawfully, abuse their powers, or fail to observe their duty of care. He has significant experience in handling misconduct cases relating to battery and assault, false imprisonment, misfeasance, malicious prosecution, and negligence.

His litigating experience extends to matters relating to mishandling of personal information, discrimination, and breaches of legislation designed to protect basic human rights. His experience as a duty solicitor has given him many years’ experience in successfully defending his clients throughout their matters, from the initial police investigations to subsequent Crown prosecutions. He has, therefore unique insight as a civil litigator into the police and Crown Prosecution Service procedure.

Further to his civil litigation work, Graeme has expertise in criminal defence work, having conducted numerous successful trials; both in the Magistrates' and Crown Courts. As such he works closely with criminal defence directors Hardeep Dhaliwal, Rubin Italia and Nicholas De Freitas, as well as public law director Toufique Hossain in the Harrow office.

On his appointment Graeme said;

“I am absolutely delighted to join the existing team of formidably talented directors here at Duncan Lewis and to continue our development of the ‘Action Against Public Authorities’ department.

“The quality of the professional support and mentoring I received from the management team cannot be understated and I thank each of them for their trust and patience while I nurtured the new department.

“I am proud to see it flourishing; I am committed to ensuring that this growth continues with increased pace and will endeavour to direct the department towards every success in the future”
