As part of National Hate Crime Week, The Royal Borough of Greenwich will be running events throughout the week, with community pop-ups in Woolwich, Eltham and Greenwich.
The events will be run by the Greenwich Inclusion Project (GrIP), the Greenwich Association of Disabled People (GAD) and the Metro charity.
Greenwich Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment, Councillor Jackie Smith, said:
“Hate Crime Awareness Week provides an invaluable opportunity for us to let residents know about the breadth of help and support available to those who are worried about or affected by hate crime.
“It also allows us to reflect with our partners on how we can continually improve the services and advice on offer, while bolstering the borough's strong tradition of community inclusion.”
Hate crimes are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person's race, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
It can take many forms – including abuse, insults, acts of harassment and physical attacks, such as abusive gestures and circulating offensive leaflets, as well as writing abusive letters, bullying at school or in the workplace, physical assaults, damage to property and offensive graffiti.
