A private hire driver convicted of running down a customer has lost his appeal against losing his private hire licence.
Danish Rasheed, 23, of St Pauls Road in Peterborough was convicted of knocking down a 19-year-old male in the early hours of 17 September 2015.
CCTV footage showed that, after an alleged altercation with customers who had threatened him, Rasheed followed the group.
Driving on the wrong side of the road, his car then mounted the pavement and knocked down a 19-year-old male, who sustained injuries to his shoulder as a result.
On Tuesday 3 November, Rasheed appealed against Peterborough City Council’s decision not to renew his private hire driver’s licence.
However, the court upheld the council’s decision and ruled that Rasheed was not a fit and proper person to hold a private hire driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay a contribution of £150 towards the council’s costs.
Public protection manager at Peterborough City Council, Donna Hall, said:
“We welcome the court's decision, as it confirms that the council made the right choice in terminating the licence.
”The welfare of the travelling public is of paramount importance to us.
“People have the right to feel safe when using a licensed taxi service – and we will continue to take action in order to protect the public.”
