Police in Kingston-upon-Thames have warned that drug dealers in the area will face criminal charges if found.

Police issued the warning after Kingston Crown Court jailed three men convicted on charges relating to possession with intent to supply MDMA and cannabis.

On 13 March 2014, police officers on Kingston High Street stopped 22-year-old Richard Kikobera Okello-Ojok of Welton Road in London SE18 on suspicion of drug dealing.

Inside the vehicle he was driving, officers found three small bags of cannabis. They arrested Okello-Ojok for possession with intent to supply drugs.

While he was in custody, officers also uncovered evidence linking Okello-Ojok to an address in Roseberry Road, Kingston and searched the premises. They found MDMA and cannabis being stored in three bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms also contained several mobile phones, a substantial amount of cash and electronic scales to weigh and package the drugs. In total, 111 small bags of cannabis, four larger bags of cannabis, 49 wraps of MDMA and £13,000 in cash was found.

The street value of the drugs was estimated to be more than £6,000.

In one of the rooms, officers also found Olamide Lawal-Balogun, 23, who lived at the address and who was arrested for possession with intent to supply drugs.

A number of letters were found with the name of 22-year-old Kwaku Opoku of Nelson Mandela Road, in London SE3 on them – and he was also arrested at his home address.

Both Okello-Ojok and Opoku pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply MDMA and cannabis.

At Kingston Crown Court, Olamide Lawal-Balogun was found guilty of possession with intent to supply MDMA and cannabis and was sentenced to three years and ten months in jail.

Okello-Ojok was sentenced to two years and four months in jail – and Opoku, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.

After the hearing, PC Will Ross from Kingston Police said:

“Drugs have a detrimental effect on communities – and also result in bringing misery to the families of users.

“As this case has demonstrated, the police take a very strong stance on drugs – and I hope it serves a warning to others that if you are dealing drugs in Kingston, you will be found and put before the courts.”
