West Midlands Police have unveiled six suggested New Year's resolutions for criminals and the public, by uploading CCTV clips of crimes to the force’s police website.

Among the six New Year resolutions for criminals and would-be offenders, West Midlands Police have urged motorists not to resort to road rage in 2015.

To demonstrate how road rage incidents can get out of hand, the force has uploaded to its BuzzFeed website a clip of a motorist driving a Citroen, which narrowly misses a lorry when the Citroen driver performs an illegal manoeuvre aimed at intimidating the lorry driver – with his wife in the passenger seat.

The road rage driver was banned from driving for a year, ordered to re-take his driving test – and was also ordered to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work – after pleading guilty to dangerous driving in court and viewing the footage of the incident, which was filmed by a camera on the dashboard of the 7.5 tonne HGV which he narrowly missed.

The Citroen driver has not been named, but the footage was shot on the M5 during 2014, say West Midlands Police.

Among the six New Year’s resolutions for criminals – and the public – West Midlands Police are also advising people not to shine laser pens at helicopters.

The BuzzFeed website also asks people not to call the Emergency Services number 999 to enquire about the ingredients of a burger, as in the case of one call to the police last year.
