Police officers in London have arrested a man caught trying to dump a body in the River Thames.

The Evening Standard reports that police officers stopped at car in Deptford in southeast London at 3am on Friday (21/11/14) – and on searching the car found the body of a man in the boot.

The man in his twenties had suffered head injuries. It is thought he was murdered in Thornton Heath.

The car driver is described as a male in his fifties who is related to the dead man. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken to a police station in south London to be interviewed.

Police learned that he had tried to dispose of the body in the Thames but had failed to do so because the tide was out at the time.

A woman has also been arrested at an address in Thornton Heath in connection with the death of the man.

Met Police have launched a murder investigation led by Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway from the Homicide and Major Crime Squad.

It is reported officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the man’s death at this stage of the investigation.
