Merseyside Police have staged a morning raid in Birkenhead and recovered off-road bikes, drugs and cash.
On Thursday (07/07/16), police officers recovered five suspected stolen off-road bikes, more than 2kg of suspected drugs – and around £7,000 cash during the execution of a warrant at a house in Grange Mount, Birkenhead.
The operation was organised following information provided by the local community in relation to serious and organised crime.
Merseyside Police say around 2kg of suspected cannabis, seven ounces of suspected cocaine and other drug paraphernalia were seized from the address.
A 26-year-old man from Birkenhead has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, as well as theft of a motor vehicle. He has been taken into custody for questioning by officers. The police investigation is ongoing to establish if the off-road bikes seized are stolen.
Officers have praised residents in Birkenhead for playing their part in a police operation. Wirral Police Inspector Duncan Swan said:
“We are delighted to have removed another five off-road bikes from the streets, as well as a large quantity of drugs – both of which are a scourge on our local communities.
“Operation Brookdale continues throughout the summer – and we have already recovered over 90 bikes across the force.
“If you recognise any of these bikes, call police and we can reunite these bikes with their rightful owners.
“I would like to thank residents in Birkenhead for providing information, without which we would have not been able to take such robust action this morning.
“If you keep telling us where drugs and off-road bikes are being stored and by whom, we can take positive action in the right areas.
“Working with our local partners, we will continue to use all lawful powers available to us in order to make Wirral a safer and more peaceful place to live.”
