A father-to-be who attacked his pregnant wife and caused her to lose their child has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, child destruction and assault.
Tariq Khan from Bradford will serve a minimum of 25 years for the brutal murder of his wife and unborn child.
The court heard that Khan attacked his wife – who was 31 weeks’ pregnant – at their Bradford home in June 2015. Both mother and child as a result of the attack.
The Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, Crown Prosecution Service, Yorkshire and Humberside, Andrew Penhale, said:
“This was a shockingly brutal attack on a heavily pregnant woman in her own home, when young children were in a nearby room.
“The defendant had a history of violent, jealous and controlling behaviour, which culminated in the fatal incident.
“On 14 June, Tariq Khan stabbed his wife eight times in the chest and back and five times in the stomach.
“The victim and her unborn baby boy died as a result of these injuries.
“Today, Tariq Khan has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 25 years.
“For the family, the death of the victim and her unborn child is a tragedy of immense proportion. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
