Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London has sentenced to 12 months in jail a man convicted of having an offensive weapon in a public place, which police found was bleach in a Lucozade bottle.
Bradley Kerr, 21, initially claimed to police that the fluid in the squeezy bottle was washing up liquid when he was arrested in Eleanor Street, Bow, east London in the early hours of 18 July.
However, Kerr pleaded guilty to one count of having an offensive weapon, contrary to Section 1(1) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 – and on Thursday (17/08/17), he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London North, Nasreen Yadallee, said:
“Kerr could find no excuse for carrying a corrosive substance in a squeezy bottle with the label removed.
“It was clear he was carrying it as a weapon, ready to use on someone if the need arose.
“Carrying a corrosive substance for the purpose of causing injury is a criminal offence punishable with a prison sentence.”
