Duncan Lewis Solicitors welcomes five new lawyers to its Harrow based Criminal Defence team (9 January 2019)

We are pleased to announce that five new lawyers have joined the criminal defence department at our head office in Harrow. Consultant solicitor Emeka Onuma joins director Rubin Italia’s team alongside Christiana Denny-Persaud and Sonal Rabadia-Coll. We also welcome consultants Leilani Helmi and Raj Mehta who will be working under director, Nicholas De Freitas.
Emeka Onuma has over 18 years’ experience in dealing with criminal defence matters at the highest level and brings valuable experience. As a police and court accredited duty solicitor, he attends police stations to advise and assist people who would otherwise have no legal representation. He joins Duncan Lewis following eight years at Kingsbury Ellis LLP (formerly Onuma & Co LLP).
Also arriving from Kingsbury Ellis are consultants Christiana Denny-Persaud and Sonal Rabadia-Coll. Christiana has extensive litigation experience, covering all areas of criminal law - from minor allegations such as petty shoplifting to the most serious allegations of murder, serious fraud and sexual offences. Sonal has over eight years’ experience handling criminal litigation matters and is an accredited duty solicitor for both magistrates’ courts and police stations.
Joining Nicholas De Freitas’ team, Leilani Helmi was admitted as a solicitor in 2008 and has a broad criminal defence practice, covering a wide range of criminal defence matters. She frequently handles complex cases that others would not consider taking on and is assisting the Duncan Lewis inquiry team that is representing a number of core participants in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Raj Mehta is an experienced and competent litigator, advising across a wide range of criminal defence matters. Raj also has significant experience in handling housing law matters having worked as a housing law specialist at Islington Law Centre.
Duncan Lewis' Crime department is ranked as band 1 for its work in Watford, Uxbridge and surrounds in the 2019 edition of Chambers and Partners UK and is also a 'Recognised Practitioner' for their criminal defence work in London.
