Duncan Lewis, Crime Solicitors, Campaign to encourage public to report online activities linked to terrorism

The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales has announced a counter-terrorism initiative, which encourages the public to report any suspicions of terrorism-related activities on the Internet.

The Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit (CTIRU) has launched the campaign to encourage the public to report online materials which promote terrorism or extremism – including materials within social media, such as videos, images, or comments, which might arouse suspicions of terrorist activities.

Members of the public can report material such as articles, images, speeches or videos that promote terrorism or encourage violence – as well as content encouraging people to commit acts of terrorism, websites made by terrorist or extremist organisations, or videos of terrorist attacks which have been uploaded to the Internet.

Reports – including any web links – can be made anonymously via a form at https://www.gov.uk/report-terrorism.
