A man who posed as a Big Issue seller in Nottingham has been made the subject of an injunction, after he was verbally abusive and used threatening behaviour to the police, licensed Big Issue sellers and members of the public.
Tristian Clayton, 36, of Dale Street in Sneinton, Nottingham used the Big Issue as a cover for his begging activities around the city of Nottingham – and was frequently abusive to Big Issue sellers attempting to sell the magazine, as well as to police officers.
The Civil Anti-Social Behaviour Order bans Clayton from using verbal abuse, threatening behaviour or trying to intimidate sellers or members of the public.
The injunction also bans him from being in possession of the Big Issue magazine – or selling it, or attempting to sell it, in a public place without approval as an authorised vendor and a valid licence.
Clayton did not attend court and the injunction was granted in his absence.
After the hearing, Nottingham City Council leader, Councillor Jon Collins said:
“We will not tolerate begging and the associated anti-social behaviour in our city, when we have ample facilities and agencies in the city to help those who are truly vulnerable.
“This is another good result from the Community Protection teams, who have put powers in place to deal with this individual and his behaviour towards others.”
