Duncan Lewis are very pleased to announce that Solicitor Alex Peebles has recently been appointed as a Director of Public Law and Court of Protection. Since Alex joined Duncan Lewis in April 2017, he has become a prominent presence in the legal fields of Court of Protection, Regulatory law and in Civil Liberties & Human Rights, whilst supporting the growth and development of the respective departments overall. With 10 years’ PQE in a wide range of Public Law matters, Alex is experienced in handling matters in the tax tribunal, High Court, Court of Appeal, European Court of Human Rights and Court of Protection.
His appointment will now see him lead a London based team of solicitors, trainee solicitors and caseworkers that provide advice in relation to a broad range of public law matters including:
- Tax disputes including VAT and income tax / IR35 matters (in the tax tribunal and by way of judicial review);
- GDPR / data protection matters;
- Commercial, social care and environmental judicial reviews;
- Regulatory and fitness to practice cases in regulatory tribunals and by way of judicial review;
- Mental Capacity and Disputes in the Court of Protection;
- Inquests and Inquiries.
In terms of his Public Law work, Alex will work closely with fellow Directors of Public Law

It has been previously recommended for its depth of experience in immigration and civil liberties challenges and is acknowledged as having a "stellar reputation in handling test cases". The Public law team have experience in all aspects of judicial review claimant work, including obtaining emergency orders and other interim relief to prevent breaches of human rights, following up judicial reviews with actions for damages in both the County and High Court and successfully pursuing judicial review matters to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
His appointment will also see him manage the company’s Court of Protection (Mental Capacity) team alongside Directors,
Rachel Caswell and
