Car crash victim discharged from hospital with “bruising” that was actually a broken back (27 July 2017)

A car crash victim was reportedly sent home from hospital with painkillers despite having a broken back. 20-year old Ciaran Lovelace says he was discharged from Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham by medical staff after being involved in a serious car crash on 4th July 2017.
After being immobilised by a neck brace and given x-rays, Lovelace was discharged with bad bruising, but after two days he reportedly received a phone call from doctors at the hospital, urging his immediate return as he had broken his back in the accident.
Ciaran has now been fitted with a back brace, but he is waiting to hear whether his injury will require surgery. He has expressed his concerns over the delay in the discovery that his back was broken, and fears that in the two days he wasn’t aware of the severity of his injury, he could have caused himself some serious damage.
