The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is marking national CSE Awareness Day on Friday 18 March with a pop-up shop in Maidenhead from 9am-5pm.

The shop at Nicholsons Centre in the town will be showing a CSE Internet safety video, as well as displaying CSE prevention information and providing details of how to find out more about CSE and training for parents and carers.

The borough’s youth centres will also have displays to help inform children and young adults about the dangers of CSE.

The council held CSE awareness sessions in February – and said that more free sessions to raise awareness of CSE risks will be held at schools and youth groups throughout 2016.

In January, the Royal Borough launched its Maidenhead-based Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) to provide a single point of access to early help and safeguarding services.

The council is now working more closely with Thames Valley Police and other agencies to strengthen the response to children and young people at risk of significant harm, including CSE.

Windsor and Maidenhead’s Cabinet Member for youth services and safeguarding, Councillor Natasha Airey, said:

“Our officers and councillors work tirelessly every day on CSE prevention and initiatives.

“This national awareness day is a great opportunity to remind residents that work is always going on behind the scenes.

“There are many different ways to get this awareness message across –
and we will be supporting the #HelpingHands campaign on Twitter, as it’s a fantastic way to spread this vital message even further.

“Our new Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub launched in January is working very well and is a great asset to the council and its safeguarding approach.

“The Royal Borough takes protecting its children and young people extremely seriously.”
