A new website encouraging people to recognise if a child might be at risk of abuse or is being subjected to abuse has revealed stories about victims of child sexual exploitation (CSE) across the country.
The new website at www.knowaboutcse.co.uk tells just some of the stories of how young people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent could be being abused and the devastating consequences, says Staffordshire County Council.
The campaign explains how children might be abused – and discusses the various forms which abuse can take, including online activities by people who groom children and young people.
The campaign also advises on the signs that may mean a child is being abused – such as changes in mood, being aggressive or being secretive. Children may also start to skip school – or may not return home at the normal time. Some children may also have bruising or other marks on them.
Staffordshire County Council is encouraging victims of child sexual exploitation and anyone who suspects a child is being abused to report it to the council’s own specially trained local safeguarding teams, the police or the NSPCC.
