A 25-year-old man from Blackpool has denied charges of child cruelty at Preston Crown Court, after tests showed his three-year-old daughter had ingested cannabis.
The Mail online reports that the child’s father and 27-year-old mother – who cannot be named for legal reasons – had sent both of their daughters to nursery school with cannabis covered biscuits in their lunchboxes on 23 May this year.
The father has pleaded not guilty to two charges of child cruelty and one charge of possessing cannabis.
The three-year-old had tested positive for cannabis in hospital – it is reported the drug was left around the home
The children’s mother – who works as a nurse – received a police caution after she appeared at an earlier hearing at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
The children’s father was released on bail and will face trial at Preston Crown Court on 1 June 2015.
The prosecution told the court:
“'Cannabis had been left around the family home, which had been ingested by the three-year-old child. There is CCTV evidence from 23 May which shows the mother going into the nursery with a packet containing biscuits.”
The couple’s children – aged one and three – are still living with them.
