Dalston-based, Child Care Director, Emine Mehmet is launching a pro bono surgery along with Councillor Lakmini Shah from Newham Council, and the University of East London (UEL).
The law clinic will commence later this month and will be providing advice to vulnerable women on all family law related matters. The surgery is in partnership with UEL’s Legal Advice Centre and will be held every month at Councillor Shah’s Conversation Café.
The upcoming surgery will bring the expertise of Duncan Lewis’ Family department and make legal advice available to vulnerable members of society who may not be able to afford it. Emine and the family law department comprise of a professional, efficient team with a wealth of experience in dealing with all aspects of family and child care law.
The family and child care lawyers attending the clinic will be able to advise on a wide range of related matters; whether it is divorce, dissolution of a civil partnership, financial provisions, non-molestation injunctions, or any other family law and child care related matters, focussing on providing detailed, considerate and effective advice.
As Duncan Lewis is a leading provider of Legal Aid Services for victims of domestic violence, by attending the legal surgery you can also get advice on all forms of abuse and domestic violence. Furthermore, you will also be able to check if you are entitled to legal aid.
The official launch day for the law clinic Conversation Café is set for 23rd January at 9:30am. The Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz as well as MP for East Ham, Stephen Timms, will be in attendance along with other academics and professionals.
Emine is the chairperson of the Duncan Lewis Pro Bono Committee, which has received a number of national industry awards in recognition for its excellent work. Emine has been awarded the coveted Jordan’s Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year at the 2016 Family Law Awards and was winner of the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year at the Family Awards 2016. She has also been commended in the category, Best Contribution by an individual at the 2017 LawWorks Pro Bono Awards.
Since 2017, Emine’s involvement with UEL’s Legal Advice Centre has been continuous and fruitful, particularly her assistance at the Romford Autism Hub Legal Advice Clinic.
