Duncan Lewis, Child Care Solicitors, Bracknell Forest Council launches Foster Care Fortnight road show

Residents in Bracknell Forest, Berkshire are being encouraged to get involved in Foster Care Fortnight, which launches on Monday 8 May.

The council is launching a road show to urge people to consider fostering. More full-time and part-time carers are needed in Bracknell Forest.

The council’s fostering team will be travelling around the borough over Foster Care fortnight, running information sessions to help people understand what fostering involves and the difference it makes to children’s lives.

They will also be talking about the support, allowances and training available for foster carers.

There are currently 51 foster carer households in the borough who already help look after Bracknell Forest children.

However, with more than 120 children and young people currently in care, the council says it needs more people to come forward to provide loving homes and support for vulnerable children and young people, especially teenagers.

The team is inviting anyone wishing to find out more to attend one of the Foster Care Fortnight drop-in sessions between 9 May and 20 May at various locations in Bracknell.

Chief officer for children’s social care, Lorna Hunt, said:

“Fostering a child is an incredibly rewarding experience which truly transforms young people’s lives, as well as the lives of carers.

“We need more people to come forward and take on this special role – we also need the support of local organisations to join us in raising awareness of the need for more foster carers in the borough.

“If you would like to find out more about how you can get involved, please do come along to one of our sessions or visit our website to download our new guide to fostering.”

The council is also asking local businesses and community groups to consider if they can help spread the word that foster care transforms lives.
