Our specialist team will make you feel at ease from first contact. We will establish how you would like us to communicate with you, any sensory processing needs you may have, and also understand any trauma that you and your family have experienced.
The majority of our neurodivergent clients have been traumatised by their interactions with professionals in the past and therefore we understand we have to work hard to gain your trust. We will always work openly and honestly with you and will treat you with the utmost respect and dignity.
Because our team has an intricate understanding of the issues that affect neurodivergent people, we can work skilfully and creatively to find solutions in your case that other professionals within the family justice system may not have thought of. This can include, for example, securing practical support to assist a parent/carer in overcoming barriers and implementing new routines.
We are acutely aware there are a growing number of adults who are only now learning of or suspecting they may be neurodivergent. This is particularly prevalent in parents whose children are neurodivergent. When we meet any client for the first time, we consider whether undiagnosed neurodivergence may be a feature of their individual profile, and can proudly say that we have been instrumental in changing the trajectory of many cases where the neurodivergence of a parent has been completely missed or misunderstood prior to our involvement. Where necessary, we advocate for specialist multidisciplinary assessments which assist us, the court and other professionals in gaining a holistic understanding of our client’s individual needs and profile, and what support they may require to meet their child’s needs consistently in the long term.
We advocate for the use of intermediaries in cases were a client requires additional support in order to fully access and engage with the court process. We also advocate for any necessary reasonable adjustments to the court process that a client requires, in line with disability legislation.
