I met Jenny on a night out and we instantly connected. But as time went on things changed, she insisted on walking me home from work. I thought it was out of love but then she began to question my clothes and the people I’d hang out with. She became paranoid thinking I’m a cheat. I remember the first time she hit me. I found her looking through my phone. I tried to tell her I wasn’t cheating, she wouldn’t listen; she pushed me to the floor and kicked me until I passed out. She promised it would never happen again but it did, I was too scared to tell the police and too ashamed to talk to my family.
I felt powerless and trapped like no one would listen after multiple incidents I contacted Duncan Lewis solicitors. As soon as I called them I felt they understood. With a small contribution I was eligible for legal aid, they advised me to report the incidents retrospectively with the police they applied for a Non - Molestation order and this was applied on a without notice basis stopping Jenny for speaking to me abusively, physically harming me and coming within a certain distance of me the order was granted and Jenny was served with legal documents. There was a Power of Arrest attached to the order and if she breaches it she’ll be arrested. There were two further court hearings, where Jenny attended court. Duncan Lewis made sure that special matters were in place so I didn’t have to come face to face with her. It’s been a difficult journey but now I’m able to start my life again.
