Trainee Solicitors

Duncan Lewis is currently authorised by The Law Society to enter into training contract with 100 Trainee Solicitors at any given time.

Selection Procedure

Our selection of trainee solicitors is made from people who have worked for us, for a minimum period of six months, as a caseworker in one of our Client Services departments. We advertise our caseworker vacancies on our website or www.totallylegal.co.uk , Inns of Court School of Law and The College of Law, etc. The Firm continuously works alongside the College of Law to provide opportunities to candidates who have either recently graduated, or have passed Legal Practice Course examination (LPC). From time to time the Company may offer training contracts to external candidates who have more than a years experience in a specific area of law where there is a business need.

Who can apply?

The firm welcomes applications from both law and non-law graduates who are able to demonstrate a high level of academic and personal achievements, along with a good written and oral command of the English language. As a minimum, we generally expect a 2:1 degree. Only candidates who have achieved their LPC examination will be eligible for a Training Contract with this Firm.

We pride ourselves on not only offering equality of opportunities, but also embracing diversity, and welcome in our workforce representatives of all sectors of the community irrespective of gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion or belief. We believe that only by providing equality of opportunity and diversity in all our activities we will be able to achieve success in the future.

Our commitment to this statement is reflected in our employment practices (such as recruitment and selection, Terms and Conditions of Employment, Training, Promotion and Transfer opportunities, Grievances and Disciplinary action, selection for redundancies, Post employment activities and any other benefits) and in our provision of goods and services, access to facilities and premises unless they fall within one of the limited exceptions. We are also committed to non-discrimination when giving or accepting instructions to/from Barristers or any other third party.

Training scheme

Our two-year training programme involves three areas of law. Trainee Solicitors are supervised directly by a Partner or a Solicitor. Most of the training is in-house, with some formal external courses, and then eventually the Professional Skills Course with core subjects and electives.

Prospective trainees should have a track record that shows a commitment to Public Funding with previous voluntary or work experience in Law Centres/Clinics, Advice Centres or in the charity and voluntary sectors.
