I am a Director of Duncan Lewis Solicitors and Head of the firm’s Claims Against Public Authorities and Inquest department. I have over a decade of experience in bringing civil claims against the State, particularly against the police, NHS and prisons. I represent bereaved families at inquests which investigate the deaths of their loved ones. I have a particular interest in investigations into deaths where an individual was detained under section 2 of the Mental Health Act or where the individual has complex needs and is managed in the community. I also specialise in investigations into deaths following police contact, in police or prison custody.
Although my work does carry a focus on police misconduct, I have represented clients in a multitude of civil claims involving actions or failures of other state agencies, such as the Ministry of Justice, Crown Prosecution Service and various NHS Trusts. I regularly act in claims for false imprisonment, assault and battery, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office, discrimination and in claims arising from breaches of the Human Rights Act.
I have extensive experience handling complex cases involving serious injuries resulting from State actions. I am dedicated to advocating for justice and accountability in cases where public authorities have failed in their duties and have an unwavering commitment to representing the most vulnerable and disenfranchised in society. I work with my clients and, more generally, the families of my clients who have been affected by unfair and sometimes tragic events to help ensure they secure accountability for State actions and also receive the justice and compensation they deserve.
I started my career in 2014, specialising in Civil Liberties, qualifying in 2017. I was privileged to assist in working on The Hillsborough Victims’ Misfeasance Litigation, part of a team that represented some 300 clients to secure justice through civil claims, some 30 years after the initial event. This cemented within me an unwavering commitment to championing my clients’ cases and strengthened my resolve to seek justice and to fight for them no matter what challenges present themselves.
I joined Duncan Lewis in October 2025 and will strive to continue my work in holding the State accountable on behalf of my clients.
