Profile / Experience
I am a Trainee Solicitor in my final seat and I am currently working in the Action Against Public Authorities Department based in the Dalston office. I am supervised by the director, Graeme Rothwell. I support Graeme’s team with challenging and holding public authorities accountable to any breaches of their legal duties. My work involves a variety of matters relating to actions against public authorities, namely inquests, complaints and claims against the police, prisons, NHS and local authorities.
Prior to joining Graeme’s team, I was a second seat trainee in the Public Law/ Tax Department based in the Harrow office. I was supervised by the director, Alex Peebles. My work involved assisting Alex and his team with challenging certain decisions made by HMRC, including VAT and income tax disputes.
In my first seat, I dealt with Public Law / Court of Protection matters under the supervision of the director, Alex Peebles, and the supervising solicitor, Helen Cummings. I was helping Alex and Helen to progress cases whereby they were acting on behalf of vulnerable individuals (through the Official Solicitor) under sections 16 and 21A of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. These cases entailed court’s considerations of individuals’ capacity in relation to their ability to conduct court proceedings and make decisions about their residence, care and contact.
My pre-training contract experience at Duncan Lewis includes working as a caseworker in the Public Law/ Immigration Department in the Milton Keynes office under the supervision of the supervising solicitor, Ahmed Aydeed, and the director, Toufique Hossain. During this time, I was assisting the team with complex judicial review cases pertaining to immigration, asylum and human trafficking.
