Profile / Experience
I am a Solicitor in the Family and Child Care team at Duncan Lewis Solicitors. I represent clients within all areas of Family Law including divorce, domestic violence, child arrangement orders, and care proceedings. I have considerable experience working with vulnerable clients including victims of torture, forced marriages, victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence and mental health problems.
I am a keen advocate and have represented clients on emergency applications, hearings for directions, reviews and first hearing dispute resolution appointments. I regularly engage with voluntary organisation such as Women’s Aid and domestic violence charities to provide free advice to vulnerable women on a pro bono basis.
Previously I worked in the Public law and Immigration department. I worked on a wide range of Judicial Review challenges, particularly immigration, civil liberties and asylum-related. This included cases of: unlawful detention; unlawful delay in processing immigration and asylum applications; fresh claim challenges/unlawful denial of appeal rights; challenges to decisions to deny access to public funds and challenges to refusals of Article 8 ECHR family and private life applications.
I have successfully represented clients in a variety of asylum applications and appeals, who have been persecuted in their home countries. Examples include: minor clients, victims of ethnic cleansing, draft evasion, former military staff, political protesters, lone women, victims of domestic slavery and violence, victims of FGM, and those fearing persecution due to their sexuality and religion.
I am accredited as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, which means I have demonstrated the required level of competence and specialist knowledge in Immigration and Asylum law as defined by the Law Society and enables me to advise and assist both private paying and publicly funded clients.
I am fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.
