Profile / Experience

I am a Solicitor and Supervisor in the Immigration/Public Law Department at Duncan Lewis. I have vast experience representing clients in all types of immigration, asylum, civil liberties and detention matters from providing initial legal advice at the Immigration Removal Centres across England particularly at the IRC Legal Surgeries to representing clients on their appeal matters before the First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal, of the Immigration Asylum Chamber (IAC). I am committed to the publicly funded work Duncan Lewis offers to those people in the community who are unable to afford legal representation.

I assist clients at the IAC Tribunals, the County Courts, the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal with challenges concerning issues such as unlawful detention, false imprisonment, removals to European countries under the Dublin Conventions, those detained clients facing removal from the UK who have been exercising EEA Treaty rights in the UK, removals on asylum and human rights grounds, challenges to policy/law relating to vulnerable clients including victims of torture, and various other challenges to decisions made by the Secretary of State for the Home Department.

I regularly deal with immigration, asylum, human rights, and bail applications particularly vulnerable clients detained in prisons or the immigration removal centres across England. I have successfully represented clients in a variety of asylum applications and appeals, including minors, survivors of domestic violence, those subject to deportation orders and those fearing persecution due to their sexuality. I also supervise a large team of consultant solicitors across England all dedicated to representing the most vulnerable in society.

  • "I always speak very highly of Ms Shahnaz Roshan. She is very, very good solicitor and I am happy with her dealing with my case. She has worked very hard on my case for a long time. She is the best solicitor and I have dealt with many solicitors during my time in the UK. I would recommend her and the firm, Duncan Lewis." - Adel, client (2017).

  • "I met Ms Shahnaz Roshan first time when I was in detention in 2014. I was in a very bad condition suffering from depression. At my first meeting with her she gave me hope. She has been very respectful at all times. Since she took my case on I started feeling better and better. She has done for me everything she can do. She worked hard on my case and was successful in getting me released from detention. She does her job properly. She was also successful in the High Court by winning my unlawful detention judicial review claim due to her hard work." - Ibrahim, client (2016).

  • "I thank Ms Shahnaz Roshan for her hard work in getting me released from detention. It was a long process and I am very grateful; Shahnaz did a great job in preparing my deportation appeal and my appeal was allowed by the panel Immigration Tribunal Judges. I am very happy with the outcome as my case was tough. Shahnaz worked very hard and was always professional." - Omar, client (2015).

  • "Ms Shahnaz Roshan is very professional. She is a very hardworking and caring solicitor. I panic a lot but she has been very supportive. We initially met whilst I was detained at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre. She assisted with my judicial review application and obtained a court order for my removal from the UK to be stayed. However, despite the court order I was boarded on the flight and then returned to the UK. Shahnaz also assisted with my eventual release from detention by submitting a bail application and she continues to work on my judicial review matter in the Court of Appeal." - Jesse, client (2014).

  • "Dear Shahnaz, thank you so much. It really was a pleasure to have you as my advocate and advisor and I hope to keep in touch with your firm for the future. I appreciated your support and genuine concern, and noted qualities that are not present in a lot of lawyers. I felt most reassured by your confidence in my case, and I really felt you were backing me all the way.

Very best wishes to you for the future.
    " - Karen, client (2013)
