Profile / Experience
I am a Solicitor in the Family and Child Care Department at Duncan Lewis. I am based in the Dalston office where I work with a team of solicitors, trainees and caseworkers under the direction of Family and Child Care Director, Forida Hakim.
I handle a variety of childcare related matters including divorce, child arrangement orders, domestic abuse and the enforcement of previous court orders. Thanks to my previous experience training in the areas of private immigration, I also undertake issues where immigration and family matters are interlinked.
A number of the clients I assist are very vulnerable, many are victims of domestic abuse and so I ensure that all clients' matters are dealt with appropriately and sensitively. I am a member of Resolution, a family law association committed to resolving family disputes and problems fairly and amicably.
Prior to specialising in family and childcare law, I had extensive experience working in immigration law. I have experience handling a number of issues including; entry clearance applications for spousal visa; British nationality applications; visit visa; further leave to remain; settlement and EEA applications. I was involved in the preparation of appeals to the First-tier and Upper Tribunal of the Immigration Asylum Chamber and worked on judicial review challenges in cases of unlawful delay in processing immigration applications, fresh claim challenges/unlawful denial of appeal rights, and challenges to refusals of article 8 of the ECHR family and private life applications.
I have previous experience in conveyancing whist working as a paralegal at a busy high street firm in London Bridge dealing with residential and commercial property from inception to completion and before embarking upon a career in law, I worked at a secondary school in Newham for 10 years.
I am fluent in Bengali, Sylheti (dialect), Hindi and Urdu. I can also read and write in Bengali.
