Profile / Experience
I am a Supervisor in the Mental Health Department at Duncan Lewis' Luton office. My work concentrates on areas of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the 2007 Act) and I have extensive experience in representing clients subject to both the civil and criminal/restricted sections of the Mental Health Act 1983.
I mainly assist clients who are detained under the Act and provide them with legal advice and representation. This includes representation at Care Programme Approach meetings, Hospital Managers' Hearings and before the First-tier Mental Health Tribunal. My work also includes displacement of nearest relatives, treatment provisions and section 117 aftercare requirements.
I have a passion for providing advice and assistance in publicly funded (legal aid) cases and I am a strong believer in equal access to justice for everyone in society. I am committed to delivering services in the best interests of my clients at all times and in cases where my clients are deemed to lack capacity I am appointed to act. I am a Law Society Accredited Mental Health Panel Member which satisfies the requirements of the Legal Aid Agency and means that I have demonstrated my specialist knowledge and experience in relation to the representation of detained patients in all proceedings before the First-Tier Mental Health Tribunal.
I can speak French and Mauritian Creole.
