I am a Consultant Solicitor in the Public Law Department at Duncan Lewis. I am based in the Birmingham office where I work alongside director Ahmed Aydeed.
I specialise in all areas of immigration, asylum, and human rights law. I have a particular interest in claimant applications for judicial review and represent clients in applications for judicial review immigration matters at the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber as well as at the High Court. I have additionally appeared before the First-tier Tribunal and am a strong advocate.
I am regularly commended by my clients for being approachable, realistic and confident. I work closely with clients at the outset and advise them on the strengths and weaknesses of their cases. I take a meticulous approach and have an excellent track record of successful applications to the Home Office.
I have developed a public law practice with a focus on judicial review. I am regularly instructed to challenge the lawfulness of decisions made by public bodies that do not attract a right of appeal. For example, a decision taken by the Home Office to refuse to accept further representations as a fresh claim with no right of appeal; or a decision to certify a claim as “clearly unfounded” under Section 94 of the 2002 Act without a right of appeal. I also represent clients who seek to challenge unreasonable delays by the Home Office; delays in relation to a decision on an application; and delays in issuing documents.
My experience extends to representing clients by challenging the lawfulness of a decision to detain them under the Immigration Act at removal centres or a HMP prison. I have an excellent reputation for challenging administrative removal and deportation from the United Kingdom by way of judicial review or a last-minute injunctions from the Upper Tribunal or the High Court.
I possess extensive knowledge of immigration law and advise applicants from both inside and outside the UK. I am skilled in preparing applications to enter the UK as a visitor, a student, or a worker from abroad. I also act for clients on numerous immigration applications made within the UK under domestic legislation or EEA Law. My experience covers applications made under the immigration rules and those outside the rules. I handle matters involving issues such as nationality and citizenship, asylum, humanitarian protection, human rights, detention, bail, administrative removal, and deportation matters. I also handle fresh claims, long residence, and matters involving domestic violence, children and statelessness.
