Profile / Experience
I am an Outdoor Clerk in the Immigration department at Duncan Lewis. I joined Duncan Lewis in March 2017 and am based in the company's Luton firm where I work with a team of solicitors, trainees and caseworkers under the supervision of Director, Bahar Ata.
My role as an outdoor clerk is to provide the solicitors that have conduct of asylum, human rights and immigration cases with the support they require in relation to visiting clients in detention, seeking client instructions and providing all appropriate advice and assistance to the client at the detention centre so that matters are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
In preparation for visiting a client in detention, I work closely with the relevant solicitor to establish what is required, receiving detailed instructions on what needs to be done on behalf of the solicitor. I also analyse all relevant documents in order to gain a full understanding of the case. Following my visits I also carry out a subsequent follow up with the solicitor. My role ensures that our detained clients in detention centres across England and Wales continuously receive the face-to-face interactions that they require whilst their case is ongoing.
Many of the clients I attend to are extremely vulnerable this includes, victims of torture or trafficking, those escaping persecution in their home countries, victims of domestic abuse and those with mental health problems.
