Profile / Experience
I am a Caseworker in the Immigration Department at Duncan Lewis. Under the supervision of Director, Ayan Yalchin, I act for publicly funded clients across a broad range of immigration, asylum and judicial review matters.
I have significant experience acting for vulnerable clients including those in detention, those suffering from complex psychological issues and victims of torture and trafficking.
I regularly act for detained and non-detained foreign nationals in asylum and general immigration matters. I have a particular specialism in securing immigration bail or challenging the lawfulness of the detention of vulnerable clients by way of judicial review and have achieved success securing their release. I also handle judicial review claims challenging the refusal to accept further submissions as a fresh asylum claim, failures to grant a right of appeal and the decision to consider asylum claims within the Detained Asylum Casework.
I am accredited as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Scheme. This means that I have shown that I have specialist knowledge and experience in the area of Immigration law and can advise and assist publicly funded clients under the company's legal aid contract.
For clients that struggle to speak English I have a good command of Somali.
