I am a Caseworker in the Family and Child Care department at Duncan Lewis Solicitors based in the Leicester branch. I joined the firm in December 2022 and I assist instructing solicitor, Mariam Saghir under the direct supervision of Director Olamide (Mimi) Olayemi. Although I am based at the Leicester branch, I also assist with matters over Nottingham, Derby, Northampton and Birmingham.
I assist the team with the day-to-day handling of their caseload in a range of matters including divorce, financial disputes, cohabitation and private children’s matters. I assist both publicly funded (legal aid) and privately funded clients. I am very experienced at assisting clients to obtain legal aid funding for their case (where they are eligible) and frequently advise privately-funded clients across both affordable fixed fee and hourly rate packages.
I regularly assist in the representation of many individuals who are victims of domestic abuse and require the urgent assistance of the family courts for their protection. This includes non-molestation/occupation orders. I have also gained experience in the regular communication of public bodies such as the Local Authority, CAFCASS and the Police. I frequenty work alongside Legal Translation services in order to provide assistance to non english-speaking clients.
My expertise in assisting Mariam Saghir in Private Children matters has allowed me to successfully understand what is required when defending and issuing proceedings for Contact and Residence. As well as providing advice when obtaining Prohibited Steps Orders to prevent the unlawful removal of a child from the care of the main resident parent or a trusted person and, or organisation (such as schools, play centres). I also assist with issues in respect to arrangements surrounding holidays and obtaining passports by issuing proceedings for Specific Issue Orders.
I have experience in assisting clients in care proceedings concerning matters involving domestic violence, neglect, non-accidental injury drug and alcohol misuse and mental illness.
My experience and training has given me the better understanding when speaking with victims of domestic abuse. I take an empathetic but firm approach when dealing with matters that can sometimes be traumatic for victims and their children.
