I am a Consultant Solicitor in the Crime Department at Duncan Lewis Solicitors. I joined Duncan Lewis in 2012 and manage a separate criminal defence team who have also been here since 2012, having all moved from Caplans Solicitors together. I have a large following of clients who are very loyal to me and whom I have represented for 20 years or more.
I initially qualified as a Barrister in 1991 and practised at the Bar for the first year before deciding that I wanted more direct client contact and therefore took my transfer exams and became a solicitor a year later. I enjoy being very hands on and the direct client contact and have travelled all over the country to represent clients.
I handle a broad range of criminal matters from shoplifting and fraud to murder and assault. I have previously handled a multi-handed drug importation matter involving substantial amounts of monies; a high-profile murder, which has been widely reported and a case involving a football coach charged with sexually assaulting a boy. As a result of regularly undertaking high-profile cases I have proficieny in dealing with the press and media.
My team has dealt with an advance fee scam fraud, valued at half a million pounds, which involved property developments in the Cayman Islands and Ireland. I was also involved in challenging the law on “Joint Enterprise" and Article 7 in the Supreme Court, by taking a case to the Court of Appeal where the defendant had been convicted of murder on the basis of Joint Enterprise.
I am a court and police station duty solicitor, which means I am an accredited member of the Law Society's police station representative accreditation scheme. This enables me to attend police stations to advise and assist people who would otherwise have no legal representation.
