Profile / Experience
I am a Trainee Solcitor in the Public Law department at Duncan Lewis specialising in asylum, trafficking and public law. I work with a team of public law solicitors, trainees and caseworkers working under the supervision of Director Toufique Hossain.
Since joining the team in March 2019 I have gained a significant amount of experience working on a variety of complex cases and cases of public interest. I have developed a reputation for being caring and dedicated to vulnerable clients while maintaining high-quality representation. I have experience supporting with vulnerable clients, including those in detention, suffering from complex psychological issues, and victims of torture, sexual vioelnce and trafficking. I have significant experience of challenging the imminent removals and have achieved great success securing deferral of removal and release from detention.
Within immigration law, my current interests are in working with victims of trafficking, people facing imminent removal, foreign national offenders facing deportation, and people with complex immigration histories.
Within public law, I am interested in developing both strategic litigation and class action lawsuits on issues engaging immigration and human rights law. I took a leading role in developing a challenge to the Home Office's use of Article 13(2) Dublin III regulations to remove asylum-seekers who had arrived to the UK by boat to France. I also assisted with a successful challenge of trafficking maternity payments. My current interests are in issues surrounding the UK-France border, Asylum Support rates, and the criminalisation of arrival by boat.
I have spoken to various media sources, including The Guardian and The Independent, about the our vital legal work giving the most vulnerable a access to justice. Moerover, I seek to make law accessible and regularly work with and alongside charities.
Before joining Duncan Lewis, I was a manager of refugee services with the British Red Cross, where I worked primarily with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, vulnerable migrants, and people in immigration detention. I am also a co-founder of the London Migration Film Festival and Migration Collective.
