The owner of a Chinese restaurant in West Cheshire has been prosecuted for food hygiene breaches that could have put the public at risk of food poisoning.
Danny Ma, 41, is the owner of the Little Tai Ping restaurant in Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port. A council inspection of his premises revealed poor standards of cleanliness and food debris, with dirty floors, workbenches, and poor hygiene beneath the surfaces of kitchen equipment.
Refuse containers were also poorly maintained, as well as food storage containers.
At Chester Magistrates’ Court, Ma was fined £1,440 with £1,189.50 in costs and a court surcharge of £144. The total penalty was £2,773.50.
After sentencing, the council’s director of operations, Maria Byrne, said:
“The safety of customers must be the top priority for any food business – and food safety officers within our Regulatory Services Team work proactively to help business owners comply with legislation and meet hygiene standards.
“The poor standards in this restaurant could have had serious consequences for customers.
“The vast majority of food establishments in Cheshire West operate to a high standard and serve their customers well – we have a duty to them and to the public to take effective action where others do not make the same effort.”
