A 23-year-old man caught fly tipping on land in West Bowling, Bradford, has been prosecuted and fined £1,114.
The defendant was observed by police dumping waste on land at the junction of Parkside Road and Birch Lane – officers took his details and passed on the information to Bradford Council’s Environment Enforcement Team, which followed up the case and began a prosecution.
After failing to turn up at court, the defendant was arrested and put before Bradford Magistrates, where he pleaded guilty to an offence of fly tipping.
Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, Councillor Sarah Ferriby, said:
“Fly tipping is an illegal and nasty offence, which we can’t fight without help.
“If you see fly tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible – including vehicle licence plate numbers – and inform the council.
“We employ various means to try to combat fly tipping, such as monitoring known hotspots, both openly and covertly – but nothing helps as much as members of the public acting to give us the information we need to take these cases to court and prosecute the criminals responsible.”
