A woman has taken legal action against Disneyland Paris following an injury she obtained in one of their restaurants. The woman, 37 from Bristol, was severely burned by a “massive fireball” when one of the restaurant’s chefs used a blow torch to light a crème brûlée.

The woman suffered second degree burns, many of which are on her face, due to her jumper catching fire, and she has since expressed her distress at the flames only narrowly missing her 10-year-old daughter.

As a result of the burns, the woman has serious scarring on her face, and lost part of her eyebrows and hair. Meanwhile, the woman’s daughter has experienced emotional distress owing to the incident, having told her mother that she still pictures her on fire when she closes her eyes.

The woman is disappointed that a member of the restaurant staff downplayed the incident, saying her injuries were comparable to those sustained in a bicycle accident, and that another staff member asked if she had been wearing a lot of perfume, as if to blame her for the fire.
The woman was treated by paramedics and had to spend several hours in hospital. She is now taking legal action against Disneyland for personal injury, and hopes to prevent any similar incidents from taking place in the future.
