The City of Wolverhampton Council's Carer Support Team is organising workshops to help carers understand the impact that the Care Act might have on people who look after a friend or relative.

The Act It came into force in April 2015 – and it sets out new rights for carers and the people they look after, including any help they can expect to receive.

The workshops run by Wolverhampton City Council will focus on the council's duties to carers under the Care Act – especially relating to assessments and advocacy, as well as determining eligibility for support and how that support can be provided to carers.

City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adults, Councillor Elias Mattu, said:

“The Care Act has been described as the biggest reform of care in 60 years –
and gives service users, carers and their families greater rights.

“I'd urge carers to attend one of these sessions and find out how it affects them.”

The Care Act primarily relates to adults and their carers, so the sessions will be aimed at those who care for adults or youngsters approaching adulthood.

The sessions will take place at The Bob Jones Community Hub, Bromley Street, Blakenhall, on Tuesday 26 January, Tettenhall Institute, Wood Road, Tettenhall Wood, on Wednesday 3 February – and Wednesfield Community Hub, Well Lane, on Monday 15 February from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
