The Immigration Rules can be difficult to navigate, especially when there are constant changes to the rules and regulations.

One of the major changes is the Immigration Act 2014. Some sections of this act have been in force since May 2014 with the remaining section to be phased in throughout the year.

The Immigration Act aims to reduce the types of immigration decisions that automatically attract the right to appeal upon refusal. This will affect a large group of migrants including workers, those wishing to join family in the UK and students.

The new act also places restrictions on the right to apply for bail where an individual is detained and there are now amendments to the removal procedures which will make it easier to remove those with no right to be in the United Kingdom without any notice. However, under the new Act where an individual with no right to remain in the UK raises human right issues, this may attract a full right of appeal under the Immigration Act 2014.
