Waverley Borough Council in line for award for new social housing development (5 May 2016)

Waverley Borough Council in Surrey has been named as a finalist in the South East Regional LABC Building Excellence Awards for its social housing development, Whitbourn Mews at Badgers Close in Farncombe.
The council’s four new energy-efficient homes are considered excellent examples of modern affordable housing design.
Waverley Council says its building control surveyors worked closely with the contractor to ensure that the project was inspected at the correct stages, to minimise expensive changes and fixes – and to provide solutions to dealing with the varied ground conditions on the site.
The local community was consulted from the start of the project to ensure that the development would fit in well with the area.
The council says the homes provide high standards of efficiency, achieving Energy Efficiency Rating of B and Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 for energy and water conservation.
They also meet Secured by Design principles and provide better security for the area, compared to the former garage block and open space they are built on.
South East Regional LABC Building Excellence Awards promote the best of local authority building control services across Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
