The best friend of a man killed on honeymoon and the owner of a ski hire company have been detained by police in Greece following the fatal crash off the Greek island of Santorini.

The Daily Mail reports that newlywed Jeremy Hope, 39, collided with his best man Pete Hudson in a freak jet-ski accident on Kamari Beach, Santorini.

Mr Hope returned to the beach to sunbathe with his wife Sarah, 30, after the accident – but was later airlifted to hospital in Crete with suspected internal bleeding. He died in the helicopter en route to hospital.

Mr Hudson was arrested at Athens airport as he tried to board a flight to Crete. The owner of the jet-ski firm on Santorini, Yannis Kostopoulos, was also arrested.

It is reported that Kostopoulos and Hudson are due to appear before the State Prosecutor on the island of Naxos on Friday (19/09/14).

The coastguard has launched an investigation into the jet-ski crash and Harbour Master Emmanuel Vasalakis said both Hudson and Kostopoulos were facing charges of negligence leading to manslaughter, but had not been formally charged.

Mr Hope ran Saxon Kings estate agents in Kingston-Upon-Thames in Surrey, where his wife also worked. The couple were two days into their honeymoon after a Greek island wedding when Mr Hope died.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has confirmed the death of a British national in Greece on Wednesday (17/09/14) and said it was providing consular assistance.
