Spelthorne Council in Surrey has prosecuted three men for benefit fraud offences.
Between 2008 and 2013, the defendants, Fadi Ajjaoui and Abo Zeinah, formerly of Staines-upon-Thames – and Ali Zeine, formerly of Sunbury in Surrey – made fraudulent Housing Benefit claims totalling more than £100,000 by providing false details.
At Southwark Crown Court, all three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit Housing Benefit fraud.
Fadi Ajjaoui was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for 18 months, while Ali Zeine was given an 18-month community order. Abo Zeinah was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
After sentencing, Cabinet Member for Housing at Spelthorne Council, Councillor Jean Pinkerton OBE, said:
“The council is very pleased with this outcome – we take this type of dishonest behaviour very seriously and I hope the outcome of this case serves as a strong deterrent to others.”
