A court has remanded in custody three men facing charges relating to the kidnap and manslaughter of a man found lying in a road with serious head injuries who later died.

The victim has been named as 28-year-old Jason Grice from Sorrel in Amington, who died at University Hospital in Coventry, Warwickshire the day after he was found seriously injured at Haunton, near Tamworth in Staffordshire on 2 May.

A post-mortem revealed that Mr Grice had sustained lie-threatening head injuries before he was discovered lying in the road.

It has not yet been confirmed how Mr Grice sustained the injuries.

A statement from Staffordshire Police released after the incident said:

“Just before 11.52am on Saturday, a man was found lying in the road with life threatening head injuries.

“Officers from Staffordshire Police and the ambulance service attended the scene and a man in his late twenties was taken to the University Hospital in Coventry.

“An ambulance crew, a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulances from Staffordshire and Cosford attended.

“A man suffered a head injury and went into cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated, anaesthetised and his airway maintained and given drugs and fluids.”

Staffordshire newspaper the Tamworth Herald reports that last week Cannock Magistrates Court remanded in custody Ross Gill, 24, of Faringdon in Glascote Heath, Carl Durham, 32, of Spruce in Amington and Carl Villiers, 25, of Sorrel in Amington.

They are due to appear in court again on 22 May.
Mr Grice’s family are being supported by police family liaison officers.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for any witnesses with information about the incident to call them on 101.
