Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, The student killer carried a gun to re affirm his identity and masculinity psychologist has said

Kiaran Stapleton the killer who shot dead an Indian student Anuj Bidve has reported to have thrown a mop bucket of hot water over another prison inmate a jury was told.
Stapleton who is in remand custody at HMP Manchester for the murder of Anuj, was caught on CCTV footage while attacking another prisoner Michael Sharp. The assault continued with billiard balls packed in a sock along with two his friends the Manchester Crown Court heard.
Later he told a forensic clinical psychologist in an interview that he had intended to kill Sharp.
The 21 year old killer who was interviewed by Dr Adrian West following the killing of Bidve had revealed that he shot an innocent student to enhance his own reputation. Dr West had told the jury that the defendant might have carried a gun to achieve some form of notoriety.

Gun related violence is seen as a means to achieve infamy or re-affirming identity and masculinity he said.
Stapleton admits manslaughter but denies murdering Anuj Bidve on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The Lancaster University student was on his way with a group of friends to Boxing Day sales in Manchester last year.
Dr West said he did not consider the defendant to have learning difficulties and that at the time of the shooting he had a "clear mental state" and was able to make rational judgements.
The jury has already heard that Stapleton attacked a fellow inmate at HMP Manchester with a bucket of hot water laced with melted sugar so it would stick to the victim's skin.
Detailing about the interview with Stapleton, Dr West said that following the assault, Stapleton said that he was in for murder and not shoplifting. Guys were seeing him differently now they have started to respect him and the guards are more concerned about him as he was seen as unpredictable.
Experts have been discussing Kiaran Stapleton's mental state in the moments leading up to the death of 23-year-old Mr Bidve.
Dr West, called by the prosecution to give evidence, said that in approaching the victim and his friends witnesses described him as cool, calm and casual, walking in a hip-hop style.
Stapleton, seeing the group of students, was aware that they represented neither imminent threat nor there was any account of provocation towards him.
The trial continues.
